Patron, Sue Morey retires after 55 years of service to respiratory care
After 55 years of dedicated service to nursing and respiratory health, the Institute’s Patron, Sue Morey, has officially retired from her clinical role as Nurse Practitioner at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH).
Sue is a much-loved leader in the respiratory health space and her impact stretches far beyond the hospital walls. She holds the title of longest serving registered nurse at SCGH and has dedicated her life to putting patients first.
As a respiratory nurse, Sue has witnessed major advances in treating pulmonary tuberculosis, asbestos-related diseases, asthma, cystic fibrosis and lung transplantation. Her knowledge, kindness and open-door approach have shaped the careers of many young clinicians and improved the lives of countless patients.
While Sue is stepping back from day-to-day clinical care, she remains a passionate advocate for respiratory health. She continues to serve as the Patron and a board member of the Institute. She will also still be involved with the Busselton Population Medical Research Institute (BPMRI) and is on the planning committee for the Cystic Fibrosis ball in May this year. Her leadership and passion for lung health will keep driving better outcomes for people living with respiratory conditions.
Reflecting on her career, Sue said, “It’s been a wonderful journey. I’ve had the chance to work alongside so many dedicated and talented people and I’ve learnt something from every single one of them.
“The patients have always been at the heart of what I do and it’s been a privilege to be part of their care.”
The Institute of Respiratory Health thanks Sue for her remarkable contribution to clinical care and looks forward to continuing its work alongside her in her ongoing leadership roles.
