Sue Morey laces up for lung research in 2026 HBF Run for a Reason
Sue Morey will lace up her walking shoes and join thousands of West Australians at the HBF Run for a Reason on Sunday, 24 May 2026, to raise vital funds for lung research.

The Patron of the Institute for Respiratory Health will walk the 3km as part of Team Breathe and the clinical trial nurse team (pictured). She aims to help the Institute raise $10,000 to purchase a specialised freezer for its clinical trials program.
The freezer will safely store precious patient samples that researchers rely on to improve diagnosis, develop better treatments, and help people in our community breathe easier.
Recently retired after more than 50 years as a respiratory nurse practitioner, Sue has stepped away from the hospital floor. But she has not stepped away from her passion for helping people breathe easier.
“I have spent my career helping people with lung disease,” Sue said. “Research is what gives them better options, better treatments and more time. Together we can reach our goal to purchase that specialised freezer and support the trials that change people’s lives.”
Sue has always kept active because she believes exercise supports healthy lungs. She will walk seven kilometres a day to prepare for the event. During her hospital shifts, she often walked up to 16 kilometres in a single day, caring for patients.
She says the 3km is achievable for almost everyone and is calling on friends, family, colleagues and supporters to join her on the start line.
“Three kilometres can make a real difference,” she said.
“When we come together as a community, we can fund the research that improves diagnosis, develops better treatments and improves the quality of life for those with a lung condition.”
If you can’t join us on the day, you can still make a difference by supporting Team Breathe through a donation.
Participants can walk the 3km, run the 12km, or take on the half marathon. To join Sue and Team Breathe, visit – https://runforareason26.grassrootz.com/institute-for-respiratory-health/
