Gift in your Will

A GIFT IN YOUR WILL

Making a gift in your Will is a way to give beyond your lifetime to everyone living with a respiratory condition. It is a way of helping future generations to benefit from medical research and improved patient care.

WHY LEAVE A GIFT IN MY WILL?

Your gift will be used to help us bring together world-class researchers and dedicated clinicians to investigate, diagnose, treat and prevent respiratory conditions now, and in the future. Your legacy will make sure we can translate our work into improved treatments for people living with chronic respiratory conditions.

Previous gifts have helped fund research into lung disease and disability, including tuberculosis, and their continuing impact on the community. Gifts have also assisted in raising awareness for community lung testing and research into COPD.

Making a gift in your Will to the Institute for Respiratory Health, no matter how small or large, is a way to make a real difference for future patients.

HOW DO I LEAVE A GIFT?

We are always grateful of any gift left in a Will and will ensure the gift is used according to your expressed wishes to support a particular area of respiratory research or program.

Advancements in research and patient care can occur over a number of years. Making a more general gift may enable the Institute to use your gift towards translational research. This will create a greater long-term impact for patients.

Whether you already have a Will or not, leaving a gift in a Will to the Institute for Respiratory Health is usually a straightforward process with the help of a solicitor.

TYPES OF GIFT

The main ways in which people choose to leave a gift to the Institute for Respiratory Health include:

  • Residual bequest: Residual bequest is simply a gift or whatever is left of your estate or a percentage after all your other gifts, taxes and debts have been fulfilled.
  • Pecuniary bequest: Pecuniary bequest refers to leaving a gift of a set dollar amount determined by you at the time of drawing up or altering your Will.
  • Specific bequest: This is leaving a gift of an item of value, to be passed on to the Institute for Respiratory Health in order to generate funds.

Leaving a residuary gift is the most commonly preferred option as it means you don’t have to change your Will later if your circumstances change.
