A GIFT IN YOUR WILL

Making a gift in your Will is a way to give beyond your lifetime to everyone living with a respiratory condition.

WHY LEAVE A GIFT IN MY WILL?

Your gift will be used to help us bring together world class researchers and dedicated clinicians to investigate, diagnose, treat and prevent respiratory conditions now, and in the future. Your legacy will make sure we can translate our work into improved treatments for people with respiratory illnesses.

HOW DO I LEAVE A LEGACY?

Making a Will doesn’t have to be difficult, you can consult a Solicitor or a Trustee Company or purchase a Will kit from any newsagent or your local Citizens Advice Bureau.

TYPES OF GIFT

  • Specific bequest: This is leaving a gift of an item of value, to be passed on to the Institute for Respiratory Health in order to generate funds.
  • Residual bequest: Residual bequest is simply a gift or whatever is left of your estate or a percentage after all your other gifts, taxes and debts have been fulfilled.
  • Pecuniary bequest: Pecuniary bequest refers to leaving a gift of a set dollar amount determined by you at the time of drawing up or altering your Will.
  • Leaving a gift in your will to the institute for respiratory health: We suggest that you consult a Solicitor or a Trustee Company when making your Will. Alternatively you can purchase a Will kit from any newsagent or contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau for assistance.

PREPARING YOUR WILL

The following wording is helpful when preparing your Will.


For a Pecuniary Bequest:
“I GIVE the sum of $ ………… free of tax to the Institute of Respiratory Health of Ground Floor, E Block, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Western Australia 6009 for its general purposes and I DECLARE that a receipt from the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the beneficiary will be a sufficient discharge to my Executors in respect of the gift.”


For a Residual Bequest:
“Subject to the payment of my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses, legacies and all tax payable from my estate I GIVE the rest and residue of my estate to the Institute of Respiratory Health of Ground Floor, E Block, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Western Australia 6009 for its general purposes absolutely and I DECLARE that a receipt from the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the beneficiary will be a sufficient discharge to my Executors in respect of the gift.”


For a Specific Bequest:
“I give my ………… to the Institute of Respiratory Health of Ground Floor, E Block, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Western Australia 6009 for its general purposes and I DECLARE that a receipt from the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the beneficiary will be sufficient discharge to my Executors in respect of the gift.”


YOUR CONFIDENTIALITY

We ensure confidentiality if we are informed that you have included the Institute for Respiratory Health in your Will. Letting us know of your intentions will allow us to ensure that your wish is adhered to and also to give us the opportunity to thank for your Gift. We are also happy to discuss your preferences should you decide to specify where the Gift should be invested.
