Lung Information and Friendship for Everyone (L I F E)
Lung Information & Friendship for Everyone (L I F E) is both a self-help and support group run by, and for, people with chronic lung conditions, their families, carers and supporters.
Become part of our self-help group, L I F E
If you live with a respiratory condition – or know someone who does, you can turn to our community group for help. The group is run by volunteers and not only offers an opportunity for people to meet others living with a lung condition but also provides a sense of community spirit.
Furthermore having a laugh together can be enormously reassuring, comforting and most importantly uplifting.
The group aims to:
- Welcome visitors, new members, carers and family members.
- Provide an opportunity to hear guest speakers on a range of topics
- Members not only share experiences and tips but also suggest ideas for speakers, newsletter topics, trips and finally social functions.
L I F E meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month, from February to November and start at 12 noon with an invited speaker arriving at 1.00pm.
Meetings cover many interesting topics, including:
- Aged care rights and responsibilities
- Early medicines and improving balance
- Consumer-directed care
- Services and self-management
- Specific lung conditions
In addition L I F E meet for seasonal lunches in autumn, winter and spring at cafes and pubs round Perth.
The venue is wheelchair and gopher accessible and please feel free to bring your oxygen or walker.

The magazine is full of news, recipes, lung health information, real-life stories from people living with respiratory conditions, and also up-to-date information on research at the Institute of Respiratory Health.
Not only do we welcome ideas for upcoming editions but also healthy recipes or tips for people living with a chronic condition. These can be sent to the Editor, Jenni Ibrahim, at firstname.lastname@example.org.

History of Lung Information and Friendship for Everyone (L I F E)
A group of Western Australians with lung disease started the self-help group in 1992 as they wanted to provide support to each other and find out more about their lung conditions.
L I F E originated as the Lung Impaired Support Association (LISA) and was the first Australian support group specifically for people with chronic lung disease.
In 2009 LISA changed its name to L I F E and while it also joined forces with the Institute for Respiratory Health, the group’s purpose remains the same.
L I F E is also an active affiliate of LungNet as well as member of the Lung Foundation Australia’s network of respiratory self-help groups (1800 654 301).
