Alec grew up in Thornlie, Western Australia and graduated from Curtin University with a BSc (Distinction) and First class Honours. He received his PhD from Curtin University and continued his postdoctoral training at the University Western Australia. Alec has extensive experience in virology, vaccine design, immunology and drug hypersensitivity. At NCARD, Alec coordinates the neo-antigen program which seeks to develop personalised vaccines that target tumour mutations. His other interests include the pathobiology of herpesviruses and the use of these viruses as vaccine vectors – research supported by the US Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) – to treat zoonotic infections and potentially cancer. He currently supervises honours and PhD research students.
