Research scientist
PhD, Mbiol
Dr Joshua Iszatt is a post-doctoral researcher within the Host and Pathogen Biology in CF group at the Institute for Respiratory Health, and is a bioinformatician specialising in microbial genomics, with experience in high-throughput assembly of microbial genomes, viral genome analysis, and preclinical evaluation of bacteriophages. Joshua is currently directing the bioinformatics analysis of Scedosporium and Lomentospora genomes and conducting murine models of respiratory infection with these fungal pathogens to understand their biology.
His research interests include development of computational pipelines and databases to assemble, analyse, and manage microbial genome data, as well as identifying proteins that can be translated into novel antimicrobial therapies. Joshua also has a post-doctoral position within the Phage WA group at the Kids Research Institute Australia, where he contributes to quality systems projects at the Phage WA manufacturing facility, including GAMP5-compliant computerised software for bioinformatics pipelines. Joshua is also actively involved internationally in the BEAM Alliance’s Phage Action Collaborative Taskforce
