Clinical Professor John Blakey is Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Research Leader at the Institute for Respiratory Health. He has extensive experience in developing and managing airways disease services, and is the medical advisor for Asthma Australia. John has adjunct positions with Curtin University and The University of Western Australia, and his current research includes MRFF funded studies in asthma, COPD, and lung disease of prematurity. He is on the steering committee of the CURE Asthma initiative. Current PhD students are working on asthma co-morbidities (ILO/DBPD), lung imaging in asthma, and improving transitions of care between providers. He also has a record of quality improvement activities, including currently being on the steering committee of ANZRAP.
