Sunset Serenade raises $4,000 for respiratory research

The Institute for Respiratory Health would like to thank the Price Family for raising over $4,000 for research into respiratory disease.

Eight years ago, John was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a rare lung disease that causes irreversible scarring of the lungs and has a very low survival rate. It is estimated that 7,000 people are currently living with this disease in Australia.

My discovery of the condition came after having a dry cough that wouldn’t go away. When I was first told I had IPF there was no referral to a specialist or discussion about the disease. It was only after discovering that my brother, who was seriously ill, had also been diagnosed with IPF that I realised the severity of the situation.

John and his wife Alison hosted a Sunset Serenade at their Yallingup property for over 100 friends and family.

Guests bring their own picnic food, rugs and refreshments, enjoying two hours of free entertainment by Courtney Murphy. Courtney is a well-known entertainer and former Australian Idol contestant. He plays and sings a large repertoire of popular songs. Later in the evening people and children got up and had a dance alongside Courtney, which really added colour to the evening. We would also like to thank Courtney for kindly volunteering his time.

John is a Board Member and Lung Champion of the Institute and believes there is so much more to be done for respiratory health.

Lung disease is very much underfunded when compared to other diseases. There needs to be significant funding made available for research, patient care, rehabilitation, community education and an increase in community awareness.
